Museum for sepulchral culture

Dying and death, mourning and remembrance: these are the key issues dealt with by the Museum for Sepulchral Culture.

Unique in Germany, the museum, which opened in 1992, presents a wide range of historical and modern evidence of such culture: as well as shrouds, coffins, coaches, mourning dress and gravestones, there are also a number of visual representations, not least the contemporary artistic approach to death. The Museum for Sepulchral Culture has an extensive collection of prints and drawings, a public specialist library, as well as a photo archive and a music archive. A number of exhibitions supplement the permanent presentation.
