Museum of Hessian History

The Hesse State Museum with its collections Prehistory and Early History, Folklore, Arts and Crafts and Sculpture is part of the state investment project for the reorganisation of the Museumslandschaft Hessen Kassel. The museum must be completely cleared for its extensive renovation and modernisation. The work has already begun; for this reason, the museum has been closed since November 2008. In November 2016, it is to be re-opened as the House of North Hessian State and Cultural History.

A separate museum building is planned for the German Wallpaper Museum, which has been housed in the Hesse State Museum up to now.
