Karlsaue State Park

The Aue Island, located on the eastern side of the former royal seat of Kassel, surrounded by theFulda, the Auehang, the Voraue (today the Hessenkampfbahn sports arena) and Siebenbergen Island, challenged the landgraves' urge to create even in the 16th century.

A fan-shaped layout of what were once five park axes zeroed in on the palatial Orangery. From its central pavilion, the view of the three major axes opens up: central avenue, Küchengraben and Hirschgraben.

The main avenue leads the visitor from the Orangery to the large pool containing the Swan Island crowned with a temple. Siebenbergen Island which is located behind this ends the build-up of suspense with a unique floral and grove splendour. It rounds off the Karlsaue.

The Karslaue offers something for every visitor: contemplative walks, space for sport and games, the Orangery with the Marble Baths and the exhibition of Astronomy and Physics for people who are interested in culture, and special vegetation and bird life for nature lovers.
